"Music is the pleasure the human mind experiences from
counting without being aware that it is counting" - Gottfried Leibniz
The polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) proposed that the mind is a melding of accessible and inaccessible parts. As a young man, Leibniz composed three hundred Latin hexameters in one morning. He then went on to invent calculus, the binary number system, several new schools of philosophy, political theories, geological hypotheses, the basis of information technology*, an equation for kinetic energy, and the first seeds of the idea for software and hardware separation. The above biographical description is from the excellent Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain (2011) by David Eagleman |
